Tips to Improve Your Spectrum Speed Test

Spectrum cable plans have a fixed 10–35 Mbps upload speed regardless of download plan. This is a DOCSIS cable limitation.

Spectrum does not charge for data overages or enforce data caps on any residential plan.

If speeds are low, try the Spectrum app → Services → Internet → Run Speed Test for a baseline comparison.

Spectrum modems and routers can be leased or you can use your own. Using a DOCSIS 3.1 modem improves performance on Gig plans.

Why does my Spectrum upload speed max out at 10 Mbps?

Spectrum's cable plans use DOCSIS 3.0 or 3.1 technology, which allocates far more bandwidth to download than upload. All Spectrum plans below Gig tier are capped at 10–35 Mbps upload. This is a technology limitation, not a configuration error. Spectrum Fiber offers symmetrical upload speeds where available.

How do I get faster Spectrum speeds?

First, connect via ethernet to eliminate WiFi as a bottleneck. Restart your modem. If speeds are still slow, check for outages at spectrum.net/support. If the issue persists over several days, call 1-855-707-7328 to request a line inspection — degraded coax cables are a common cause of Spectrum speed issues.
